In this report, we describe lessons on “defecation” and “arteriosclerosis” given at elementary school and on “cancer” given at junior high school.
Children have heard many times and know that ``exercise, diet, rest, and sleep'' are important for maintaining and improving health. However, we have not given much thought to why these things are important or what is happening inside our bodies at that time, and we rarely have a convincing understanding of them. This time, I will report on the following three classes. 1) Learning about the relationship between defecation and physical condition held at elementary school・Grade4 2) Learning about the relationship between arteriosclerosis and immunity held after learning about immunity based on experiences with colds and influenza held at elementary school・Grade6 3) In junior high school・Grade9, after thinking about cell metabolism, students learned about cancer cells that continue to proliferate. Through these lessons, the children wrote the following comments, indicating that they have come to think about improving their lifestyle.〝I w as surprised that too much cholesterol causes macrophages to run amok, leading to atherosclerosis. I would like to adjust my lifestyle and maintain my health.″〝Since our body has a mechanism to fight cancer cells, we should review our lifestyle to maximize its power.″
