In summary, three contributions are made in this dissertation regarding the ellipsis phenomena in Chinese. First, the alternative analysis of the subject-object asymmetry grounds on empty operator hypothesis in explaining null argument in Chinese. Furthermore, by comparing null arguments in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Burmese basis on the argument ellipsis theory, the observation gains the new finding on null argument in Burmese. Second, by implementing an examination in sluicing, as a result the new data show that two distinct types of derivation are needed for sluicing in Chinese. Third, the proposed analysis of the VP ellipsis in Chinese, a new analysis provides unified explanation for differences between these elliptical constructions. p.116
